Products are predefined line items that you can quickly add to invoices and quotes. Instead of typing the same item details every time, you save them once and reuse them with a quick search. Internally, JoomInvoice calls these "Template Items".
Viewing Your Products
Go to Components > JoomInvoice > Products in the sidebar to see all your saved products.
Creating a Product
- Go to Components > JoomInvoice > Products.
- Click New in the toolbar.
- Fill in the product details:
- Name - The product or service name (e.g., "Web Design - Hourly Rate").
- Description - A description that will appear on the invoice line item.
- SKU - An optional product code or reference number.
- Unit Price - The default price per unit.
- Quantity - The default quantity (usually 1).
- Tax - The default tax rate to apply to this item.
- Click Save.
Editing and Deleting Products
Click on a product in the list to edit it. To delete, select one or more products and click Delete in the toolbar.
Using Products When Creating Invoices
This is where products save you the most time:
- Open an invoice and go to the Items tab.
- Click Add Item.
- In the Name field, start typing the name or SKU of your product.
- A dropdown appears with matching products. Select the one you want.
- The item fields (name, description, SKU, price, quantity, tax) are filled in automatically.
- Adjust any values if needed for this particular invoice - changes only affect this invoice, not the saved product.
Importing Products from Other Extensions
If you use an e-commerce extension like HikaShop or VirtueMart, JoomInvoice can search their product catalogs directly from the invoice form.
To enable this:
- Go to Extensions > Plugins.
- Search for
joominvoicesearch. - Enable the plugin for HikaShop or VirtueMart.
- When adding items to an invoice, the search will now return products from those extensions as well.
This means you do not need to duplicate your entire product catalog in JoomInvoice if it already exists elsewhere.
