Configuring and running media processes at JoomMedia

This article will run through a process which helps you understand and configure the media processing in JoomMedia.

1) Configuration

Firstly, check you have the server requirements installed on your server (FFMPEG and ImageMagick). These are required to process media files. Then, in the 'Site' tab of the JoomMedia configuration make sure that the correct paths to the server tools are set.

After this, visit the JoomMedia configuration, and click on the 'Processing' tab. Check over the Images and Audio section and check you are happy with the files which JoomMedia will generate for new media.

Then check the same for the video processing section.

Then, ensure that JoomMedia is setup to process new media uploads.

2) Upload a media file

You now need to upload a media file. Go to media items then click on new and upload your media file. Verify the file is listed in the Media page of the JoomMedia administrator

3) Process manager

Click on the 'Media Processor' button. and you should see a list of processes for the media file you just uploaded.

You should see that the status of the processes is 'Queued', and the number of attempts is zero.

Click on the 'Process All' button to execute all the queued processes.

Hopefully you will see the total queued processes being reduced, and then see a Processing Complete message.

Refreshing the Process Manager you will see that the status and the attempt columns have been changed.

JoomMedia will attempt to execute processes 5 times before it fails.

4) Process log

You can click on the name of any process to view the 'Process Log' for that item.

This is useful to get the input and output from process executions which can be helpful when debugging problems.

5) Media item

The list of new media items which have been generated by the processor will show in the Media Edit page when you edit a media item.
