Every message in a conversation has its own set of actions — react, reply, forward, edit, delete, and report. This guide explains each one, plus how to search a conversation.
Showing a message's actions
Hover over a message with your mouse (or tap and hold it on a phone) to reveal its action buttons.
Reacting to a message
- Show the message's actions.
- Choose the reaction option. A row of reaction icons appears.
- Click the reaction you want — for example Like or Love. The available reactions are set by your administrator.
To see who reacted, click the reaction count shown under the message. A list opens showing each person and the reaction they gave. You can change or remove your own reaction at any time by reacting again.
Replying to a message
- Show the message's actions and choose Reply.
- The message you are replying to appears just above the message box.
- Type your reply and send it. Your message is posted with a quote of the original, so everyone can see the context.
To cancel a reply before sending, click the close (x) on the quoted message.
Forwarding a message
- Show the message's actions and choose Forward.
- The forward window opens with a list of people and rooms.
- Use the search box to find a recipient, then select them.
- Click the forward button to send the message on.
Editing your own message
- Show the actions on a message you sent.
- Choose Edit.
- Change the text and confirm. The message is updated for everyone.
Deleting your own message
- Show the actions on a message you sent.
- Choose Delete.
- Confirm. The message is removed from the conversation.
Mentioning someone
To get a specific person's attention in a busy room, type @ followed by their username while writing your message. They receive a notification that links straight to your message.
Reporting a message
If a message breaks your site's rules, you can report it to the moderators.
- Show the message's actions and choose Report.
- In the report window, choose a reason from the list.
- Add any additional details that will help the moderators.
- Click Submit Report.
You can also report a whole conversation or a user, not just a single message — use the Report option in the conversation's options menu.
Searching within a conversation
- Open the conversation you want to search.
- Click the search button in the right panel (or in the conversation's top bar).
- Type your search words and start the search.
- Matching messages are listed — click a result to jump to it in the conversation.
